Encrypt.Me Review

I’m in my fifth year of using this service, having first signed up in 2015. Over the years, there have been periods when it worked better and others when it worked less well, but it’s been working just fine during the last few years. My problem is that my environment is evolving beyond the vendor’s capabilities: most importantly, the lack of a Linux client. Both my laptop and my NAS are running Linux variants, which means that I have to find a solution which will support those platforms, in addition to the Mac OS and iOS devices which I’ve mostly used when I’ve been traveling and forced to use public Wi-Fi networks. As my world evolves toward a private cloud model based on the NAS, I need secure, encrypted remote access to that server as much or more than I do when I use commercial cloud services. I can get that from OpenVPN, but not from encrypt.me; at least not now.

I am generally happy with Encrypt.me. My only issues are some slow connection times while overseas. Also, locally I find it falls out from time to time. This means I need to be aware it is connected as it doesn’t always apply automatically. It’s no major issue; it just means being aware and manually connecting if using wifi outside of the home. Otherwise, I’m happy.

Sometimes VPN is not available. I need to be able to rely on it and this is not acceptable.

Still occasional connect problems, but the app is getting easier to use and I feel confident that it honors my privacy.

I needed you and you said I wasn’t a subscriber on a recent trip. What’s with that!?

Encrypt.me is exactly as advertised, speeds, quality & customer service is excellent. Keep up the good work Encrypt.me Team!!

Makes me feel safe when ever I connect to the internet!!!

Hard to tell how well you are doing. Have had no issues or complications while using your service. Can only surmise that data transfers have been secure and without issues.

The service used to work flawlessly. Recently, I notice a lot of interruptions though. Almost every other time I need to reinstall the VPN profile on iOS due to an “internal error”. Often the iOS app shows “no internet connection” although I am connected perfectly fine. I need to force shut the app and the it works sometimes; other times I need to move the slider in the app to on then back to off to get a connection. It is really irritating and I hope encrypt.me goes back to its roots, i.e. Cloak, that were the times…

Y’all security system and trust me it’s done one of the best I have ever seen in my life it worked fine for a while I think it’s the federal government block any I’ve been no one anyways. I need it I want you to fix it it’s the best I’ve ever seen the software of your app works please help me fix it I don’t know much about Communications but I know I want my phone encrypted and I wanted within Creek meet y’all message me back and tell me what I got to do to fix it

Easy to use and does not interfere with other apps. Easy to add trusted sites.

It’s ok. I like the simplicity of the service on both Mac and Android. Unfortunately, I regularly find my internet speed is slowed down by at least 50% and changing WiFi network sometimes takes a long time.

The service works well. There are times on my cell phone, however, when Encrypt.me prevents me from making ANY connection. Usually, there are extenuating circumstances, such as a poor wi-fi connection. But it is difficult to stop my iPhone from trying to use VPN so that I can instead use the cellular connection. I usually can figure out a work-around, but my spouse would never be able to.
There is an option in the Mac version to trust a network that was previously considered untrustworthy, but I am unable to find that option in the iOS version.

Until it handles public wifi better, which after all is what it’s all about, I can’t give any more stars.

It Just Works.

Wonky. Only works sometimes and then with mixed results. No real rhyme nor reason why. Have given up on feedback.

This vpn service is very reliable and quick to connect. Only exception is when my cell service is around 2 bars.
I like this company because their response to any inquiries is swift and friendly. I appreciate that.

Need more countries.

Five stars would be easy except too often one of our phones needs to be “reset”. Other than that this is a great app that I have strongly recommend to others.

Very good service, much or most of the time. However, there are times when it stalls, hiccups, delays my connections. In those cases, it’s an extra headache to troubleshoot and deal with.

Absolutely love the product. With my extensive international travel and presence, it gives me great security. Thank you!

Works when I need it to

For the most part a very good product.
The main issue I have with the product is that quite often the WIFI network is able to make a connection, but Encrypt.me cannot connect for some reason. Encrypt.me seems to infinitely block the working insecure connection while trying to connect. It would be better to time out and go back to a cellular connection, rather than blocking all data communication.
It would be nice to be able to connect to a server that can access VPN unfriendly sites like Netflix, etc. I realize that this is not your fault, but is a deficiency in the service.

Encrypt.me makes me feel much safer when I am on public Wi-Fi or traveling through an airport. It is simple to use and very affordable.

Encrypt is easy to use and it gives a good feeling to be protected

However, sometimes the blue icon indicates a secured connection while its not secured. You need to click on the tray icon to see that it tries to connect. This is misleading.

My favourite feature is the way it automatically protects me when I connect to an unknown network. Ensuring my traffic is private without even thinking.

1) Windows app is in Beta for years now. It seems like it is not a priority.
2) One huge thing for a common user is to be able to bypass geographical restrictions using a VPN service which you cannot promise, I understand that you market encrypt.me from a privacy and security angle but still there are times when I want to watch BBC iplayer and I just simply cannot do that with this app. Why can’t it do both functions?
3) Name is horrible. Cloak was a much better name.

I’ve been a subscriber to EncryptMe (fka Cloak) for a long time, and to varying degrees. However I see the VPN menu bar app frequently disconnect and attempt reconnect during minor usage. This happens when selected points are San Jose / San Francisco / Los Angeles in CA, Seattle WA, and Denver CO. Cannot use top level “fastest network” because then banks don’t recognize my connection. Providing a selection for regional fastest would probably be good for mitigating all of the above? There have been no updates to the app in a very long time to address things like this (presuming local machines could be partly at issue).

Still glitches with Android specifically auto connecting on untrusted wifi. Apple side of things great.

Auto-connect has become unreliable. Connecting in general has become unreliable and often the connection, when made, is unusable.

encrypt.me isn’t as seamlessly usable then before. There are many times where I have to disable encrypt.me to get back on to the network again. I cannot tell if it’s an unreachable server due to my country selection or something else but it happens in networks where it worked before as well.

Fast and reliable

Great. Does what it’s supposed to do without any problem. I am very satisfied.

My experience with Encrypt.me is quite good. What I struggle with is to connect to networks that requires some kind of ”checkbox ticking”. These networks are blocked by default so I don’t see the UI.
I’ve googled and partially understand that I need to add an IP address to get this UI — but honestly I don‘t really get it 🙁

It does what they say it will do. It’s important since I travel often.

I needed a Polish IP to use some services but on selecting Poland as transporter, my new IP is detected as Romanian (Bucharest)

I have already sent you a response explaining why I am not actively using it atm but wish to keep and am happy to pay for my subscription

Great app, great service, great customer support.
I’ve been a customer for six years (when it was still called “Cloak”). I’ve seen problems. They’ve been fixed. Super solid now, and has been for a long time!

Solid VPN but sometimes a little slow.

Might interfere with other apps (adblockers) and not connect. Sometimes misidentifies network and phone restart is needed to fix it. Won’t connect on some captive page Wi-Fi which is very annoying since most public Wi-Fi have captive pages. Full subscription is quite expensive among other von options.

Good speed, reliable, would give 5 stars if there was a server availability dashboard indicating any potential problems or slow downs.
