IPVanish have earned the top spot in our best VPN providers list this year for a reason. There are many great VPN providers out there, but none of them seem to continue working as hard as IPVanish does. Their already easy to use and very well functioning app for OSX earned the top spot on our Best VPN provider list. The new IPVanish MAC OSX app, for Mac users with 10.10. installed, has only bettered their stock.

If this is a hint as to what is to come from IPVanish in the future, with a possible rollout to other Mac OS in the future, we may have to invent a new number to talk about how we feel about IPVanish here at BVP.

What’s new in the IPVanish OSX 10.10 upgrade

Server Selection map by country

The old style of server selection for IPVanish was a simple drop-down menu of all their available servers:

It has served its users well so far, and I have no complaints. The new one is much slicker, reminding me of CyberGhost VPN’s interactive map, with a better visual representation of the data:

With the new IPVanish MAC OSX app users can zoom in and out to select the server they want in the city they want. For those who want things to stay the same, and no one on the Internet never ever acted irrationally when faced with change, worry not! The old style list of all servers together has stayed.

IPVanish finally gets a Kill Switch for OSX

A Kill Switch for your VPN is an invaluable tool. It can kill a connection, and save your privacy, in the event that your VPN connection is lost. Hide My Ass! have an exceptional one on their app. Lacking their own kill switch has been IPVanish’s only weakness. That is no longer the case with the new IPVanish MAC OSX app as it has a Kill Switch which you can engage when needed:

All you have to do is choose whether you want it on or not in your Connection Settings tab.

Make tracking nearly impossible with Random Switching

A tool on their Windows client that was used more than others, but not on the Mac OSX client, was one for random switching. When you enable this on the new IPVanish MAC OSX app your connection will automatically change IP addresses based on a time-interval that you can set. This will serve to hide your real IP address even more!

Personalize your VPN app

A feature on Hide My Ass’ VPN app that we enjoyed is the ‘Favorite’ servers list. There, users could group together servers that they like to connect to. This eliminates the need to sort through servers you don’t need – how often do you really connect to Serbia?? The new IPVanish Mac OSX client gives users this top-tier choice now as well:

Just click the green ‘Starred’ icon next to the servers you want to use – kinda like your gmail inbox, ya?

Behind the scenes reporting and account fixes

Not everything that’s been changed is apparent to users. Behind the scenes the new IPVanish Mac OSX app will:

  • integrate with a better technical fault reporting system
  • report crashes sooner for faster debugging
  • improve account access integration so you can view your status easier

The first two points are very important – every new app will have issues on launch. The first few weeks of problems with the new IPVanish Mac OSX app are over. If you have OSX 10.10+, and always wanted the absolute best features with the best VPN network, look no further than IPVanish.
