PRQ is a Sweden-based VPN provider that has been in business since 2004. It claims to help organizations and individuals maintain free speech online. The site offers other services like dedicated hosting alongside its VPN plans.
In this PRQ VPN review, we found this provider very limited. The features it offers are very basic and can already be found in more advanced providers. It also has just one location and has very low connection speeds, making it unreliable at times.
Another thing that will be a concern to many users is the pricing. While the prices are not that high, the features the site offers makes these prices significantly cost-inefficient. Because of these issues, we recommend that you choose alternatives from our list of top providers.
PRQ offers a very basic VPN service. You get the following features when you subscribe to any of its packages:
These features are suitable for most applications. You can also get additional IP addresses for an extra charge.
While the feature set is not impressive on its own, this is just one of the services provided by PRQ. Other services include:
The company says all these services come together to help users conduct confidential activities more effectively and keep themselves anonymous.
PRQ does not disclose the number of its servers. It also offers only one server location—in Sweden. For a provider that supposedly is intended to give users a greater degree of anonymity, this one-location network means you are not getting that anonymity you might need for your work or anything else.
While many providers have much larger networks than PRQ, one specific option we would recommend is CyberGhost. This provider has over 3,600+ servers distributed in 60 countries, definitely giving you more location options. It also offers more security features to ensure your anonymity is preserved when going online.
Due to having only one server location and a minimal number of servers, PRQ’s connection speeds are severely limited as well. According to the price plan listings, the most that the service can give is a mere 30Mbps. In fact, the entry-level plan gives just 512Kbps! The best VPNs offer up to on 1GBps, that’s 1000Mb!
Reliability also suffers a lot due to the small network. Since there is only one location available, you don’t have the option to switch countries. The site also doesn’t provide any app or control dashboard, making it hard to manage your connection.
PRQ offers three different monthly subscription plans. The difference between each plan is mainly in the bandwidth allotment.
Note that the prices are all in Swedish Krona (SEK). The site does not provide currency conversions which can be inconvenient to many users.
You can buy additional IP addresses at an additional 31 SEK per month per IP address. We must point out that the price is already equivalent to some providers’ full packages with multiple IP addresses.
The order process is also cumbersome. You need to send an email first to firstname.lastname@example.org specifying the type of service you want and your invoicing email address. The site does not give an estimated response time, which could frustrate new customers.
To pay, you can use any of the following options:
As mentioned above, you need to pay in Swedish krona. Note that you also need to make at least a one-month prepayment before the service is activated.
PRQ provides customer assistance only through email. You send your questions to email@example.com. You can direct email to the sales, finance, and technical support departments.
The site also has a forum where you can get more technical assistance from PRQ’s staff and other users. Note that the forum is only accessible through registration.
For a company that is supposed to provide full anonymity to users, this is a very odd policy statement. Because of this, we suggest that you not use them and go instead with any of the providers in our no-logs VPN list for better security.
PRQ is a weird VPN provider. Despite its claims of providing full anonymity to users, its features can’t even compare to most entry-level providers. The one-country network and low bandwidth speeds don’t help either. Making things worse, the prices are too high for the features it offers.
From what we found out in our PRQ VPN review, we can say that this one is an extremely niche provider. It seems intended to be used only in conjunction with the other services provided by the company and not as a standalone product. Because of this, we recommend getting any of the providers on our top 10 list instead of this one.
Our ratings for prq vpn review are based on our professional experience and extensive tests with VPN providers between April 2014 – July 2014, taking into account user feedback and reviews we receive. As a friendly disclosure, some VPN providers do compensate us for customers we refer them, but this in no way effects their ranking on our website, nor our reviews.
