Le VPN is an experienced VPN provider founded in 2010 with the sole purpose of granting online protection to those who seek it. This VPN provider prides itself on being the number one VPN in Europe, being located in France. It offers industry-standard features, offering a seemingly complete feature set.
Upon doing this Le VPN review, we found that this provider has lots of ups and downs. While it does have servers in 116 countries worldwide, for some reason, its live chat support didn’t want to tell us the exact number of servers. We also didn’t like the fact that it restrains from describing the speed and stability of its VPN connection. It has a short, seven-day refund policy, and the prices come off a little too expensive when compared to the industry average.
While Le VPN has its great qualities, it still has much work to do to be considered top-quality. We advise that you check some of the best VPNs in the industry to choose a proven and reliable VPN provider.
Features
Le VPN has a good feature set. Apart from offering the most basic VPN features, it also offers some advanced ones:
- No-logging policy
- P2P support
- Ultra-high speeds
- SmartDNS
- Compatible with Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android
- AES 256-bit encryption
- Kill switch
- OpenVPN, IKEv2, L2TP over IPSec, PPTP, and HybridVPN
One thing that we liked about Le VPN’s feature set is that it supports both P2P and online live streaming. Upon talking with live chat support, we found that the company also has a kill switch and leak protection. If that is indeed true, then Le VPN offers a comprehensive package of features for P2P and could see itself on our list of the best VPNs for P2P torrenting with a few improvements.
Countries & servers
Le VPN seems to have an impressive server network that covers 116 countries. The servers are mostly centered in Europe.
Even though Le VPN covers many countries worldwide, we feel bothered when live chat didn’t want to disclose the exact number of Le VPN’s servers.
This seems odd, as we don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t want to give us the exact number. This is unprecedented, and it somewhat hurts Le VPN’s reputation.
Speed & reliability
Le VPN states that it offers ultra-high VPN connection speeds. We wanted to know more about these so-called ultra-high speeds, so we dug around a little on its website. We couldn’t find anything significant, so we turned again to live chat support. We received a vague answer:
The live chat support, while responsive, was not helpful. What they’re trying to say is that try out their services and check the VPN connection speed for yourself, when it’s not hard at all to state an upper limit for your servers. So much for offering dazzling speeds and being ideally suited for online streaming.
If a strong and fast VPN connection is what you’re looking for, you’ll be better off choosing one of the top VPNs for online streaming.
Pricing & payments
Le VPN offers monthly, three-month, and yearly pricing plans. The monthly plan comes at $9.95 per month, which is pretty steep compared to the industry average.
The biggest savings come with the yearly subscription where you can save up to $50 and get a deal of $4.95 per month. Despite these decent savings, they’re still not at the level of a cheap, quality VPN like Cyberghost VPN.
Each plan includes the same features. The plans are protected with a short, seven-day money-back guarantee, which we think needs to be longer.
Le VPN accepts payments via PayPal, credit cards, Qiwi Wallet, PayPal, Bitcoin, and Yandex Money. This is a pretty comprehensive list of payment options.
Support
Le VPN didn’t impress in this area. While it kicked off on the right foot by immediately responding to our inquiries via live chat support, the responses were neither informative nor friendly.
On the website, you can find the following customer support sections:
- Installation guides
- Blog
- Ticket system
We can’t say we were pleased with Le VPN’s customer support. It doesn’t have a knowledge base and FAQ. The live chat support, while helpful, didn’t really help us at all. With this type of customer support, Le VPN can’t compete with the best in the VPN industry.
Policies & logging
Le VPN offers the following customer protection policies:
- Privacy policy: Le VPN stores certain personal data when you register to its services, including your username, email address, password, and IP address. The company uses these pieces of data to provide you its services. It also uses cookies to collect data from you. It will only share your personal data with third parties under the following circumstances:
- Refund policy: Le VPN offers a seven-day refund, except to those who purchased by mobile payments. All refund requests are accepted during working days (Monday to Friday), and refunds will be processed within seven days.
- No-logging policy: Le VPN guarantees total confidentiality and won’t keep any logs of your online activity.
We did find one disturbing statement which states that Le VPN will retain your personal data for up to five years after your account has become inactive.
This is unacceptable if Le VPN wants to become a top VPN provider.
Expert recommendation
Le VPN is a decent provider with peculiar qualities. It offers some good features and has a rather comprehensive package. We liked the fact that it has a kill switch, P2P support, and leak protection feature. We aren’t entirely confident though with its server network, speed, and reliability, as it shared limited data on these sections.
We were not very happy with live chat support; the responses were brief and not so informative. The prices also come at a high cost, with the monthly plan at $9.95 per month. That price would’ve been justified if Le VPN’s customer protection policies were strong, but they aren’t.
While Le VPN strives to become a member of the elite group of VPNs, it still isn’t top-notch material. To make sure you’re choosing the right VPN provider, we advise that you take a look at some of the best VPNs we have reviewed on our website.
