VPN4All are a good VPN provider with a powerful client. Their speed was slower and their price was higher.

VPN4ALL Review Summary

VPN4All is a VPN provider based in the Netherlands. They have been in business since 2009. Their client features easy to use timed IP and server changes that will increase your privacy. Their pricing is average, but their many different packages can help you get exactly what you need.

Their client takes time to get use to as it is not as sleek as it could be. The speed of their service is what may be holding them back the most. They feel much more sluggish than our favorite, IPVanish.

Being in the Netherlands allows them to keep no logs of any kind, outside of data usage. No personally identifiable information is kept. For someone who isn’t hung up on speed that wants as much privacy as possible, VPN4All could be a good choice.

VPN4ALL VPN Features

The VPN4ALL software was found to be adequate. It installs quickly, is simple to use with one-click functionality across all platforms, and is explained fairly well through its design. There are some very interesting features to look at:

  • Anti-malware/virus software on the server, preventing it from ever reaching your computer
  • A fully-functioning firewall
  • Push one button to get a new IP address
  • Timed automatic IP address changes

Their server-based anti-malware/virus feature is probably their best, we can’t think of another VPN which offers it.

VPN4ALL SERVERS & COUNTRIES

This is an area where VPN4All excels. They currently have servers in over 50 countries, in 80+ cities, with a rumoured, but unconfirmed, 500 servers available. Amongst these 500 servers they have 10,000+ IP addresses for you to rotate through using their forced IP change.

An interesting aspect of how they present their servers in the selection menu is by labelling which one allows, and which one does not allow, P2P downloading. The servers which allow this are in more remote countries, but they work fine. Absolutely no P2P servers exist within the USA.

The only notable omission is their lack of servers in Australia/New Zealand and southern Africa. Everyone else across the entire world will have a server close by to connect to.

Reliability & Speed Tests

The client itself was slow to download. It could have been our connection’s fault, but it was slower to download than other clients tested in the past by around twice as long. Here is the speed of the 2Mbps line that was used on the day of testing:  Here is the speed we got when connected to their nearest server:  With all of the excellent features of their client, this was the biggest disappointment. Every chance was given for VPN4All to succeed. Multiple servers were used in multiple countries. We switched IP addresses a number of times. This was still the average connection speed. The reliability proves to be a definite strength. After days of testing, there was only one dropped connection. The connection may have been slower, but it did not drop often.

Pricing and Payments

VPN4All has one of the most complicated payment structures that we’ve come across. We’ll break it down into the three sections below. Their cheapest option is VPN4All Mobile, meant for smartphone and tablet users. You are limited to 5GB/month. The payment options are:

  • 1 Month $5.95
  • 3 Months $15.00
  • 6 Months $28.00
  • 12 Months $49.00

You can not use this plan with your desktop. It is mobile devices only. Their mid-level plan is VPN4ALL 50. You are restricted to 50GB/month with this plan. The costs are:

  • 1 Month $9.95
  • 3 Months $25.00
  • 6 Months $48.00
  • 12 Months $84.00

Extra protection, in the form of at the server anti-virus/malware/phishing can be had for a cost of $2.49 per month. No discounts are offered on this. The top of the line price plan is called VPN4All Unlim. It is exactly the same as the plan above, but offers unlimited streaming and downloading:

  • 1 Month $16.95
  • 3 Months $43.00
  • 6 Months $81.00
  • 12 Months $142.00

Extra protection is also available on this plan for the same amount of $2.49 per month. The plans on offer from VPN4All are on the higher end in regards to price. The cheapest plan for desktop users is around $7USD/month using the 12 month plan.

Support

Contacting customer support is one of the best things about them. They are prompt to reply, and give accurate answers. Using email, replies were sometimes given within 30 minutes! While they provide a support@VPN4ALL.com address, they recommend that you open a formal ticket through their support portal.

If you’re really motivated, they have a phone number you can call them at in The Netherlands. They also provide a mailing address if you want to send them fan mail, or drawings of your dogs.

If you don’t like any of those options, and want to solve issues yourself much faster, you can use a small knowledge base, or a live chat window. The knowledge base is not very well organized compared to other VPNs, but you can search your way through it based on questions you have. The live chat is more for sales than true support, but it’s worth a shot if you’re already on the site.

POLICIES & LOGGING

VPN4All have a great privacy policy thanks to their location in the Netherlands. They only collect bandwidth usage for billing purposes. A notable quote from their privacy policy is:

“Internet logs, personal information, account data and any client information is not required to be logged or cached, therefore any requests by law enforcement can be met without providing any information about clients or their data. Even a court order would not provide any personal data about users.”

Their commitment to storing absolutely nothing is encouraging. One thing to note is if you contact them via email they will store your email on secured servers for 7 days and delete it. If you’re paranoid about privacy, use a temporary email to contact them.

Their client is a very powerful tool if you want to make it difficult for people to track your online activity. They have a client feature that switches servers and IP addresses for you.

Expert Recommendation

VPN4All are a good VPN provider with a powerful client. Their speed was slower and their price was higher. If you’re looking for a VPN provider with the specific features that their client has, like IP and server switching on a timer, they’re the best choice for you.

Those in Europe and North America will find VPN4All to be a good option as far as ping rates and server location goes. Those outside of these areas may have issues with slower connections.

To sum up our experience with VPN4All in one sentence: They’re a mid-range VPN provider, with a great client, but a price that is too high to be practical when cheaper alternatives of a similar quality, such as IPVanish, exist for nearly half the price with no data caps.

Stay Away from VPN4All

The Positives first: – Fast first response from Support. That’s about all. The Negatives: – Their help turned out to be useless and no, I am not letting a stranger access my computer via TeamViewer. After that, no more help from Support, just silence. That makes tolerating the rest even less of an option: – Extremely ugly interface – Lack of server options (default is Russia, of all places) – No KillSwitch (at $84/yr you should expect that) – Slow, building the connection takes forever – No attention to detail (go to their Feedback page: the latest Windows version there is Windows 7) – The ‘KnowledgeBase’ is a joke: mainly one-liners that sound like ad copy (predictably, users are not impressed, just click ‘vote’ at the bottom and see how many users found any of the offered answers helpful) – Overpriced In short: there are much better VPNs out there. I use the market leader on the other PC and it works like a charm.

Obsolete software with techs who close tickets without a resolution to the problem.

Obsolete software which will lead to demise of the service — most of the software is compromised — when you go to OpenVPN forum VPN4All is 2 or 3 versions behind — I have one tech tell me to download OpenVPN community software and download just the TAP to correct a connection error — I thought why am I doing this — should the service provided update the software — I change to ExpressVPN — no issues same speed — periodically updates to keep the software secure.

The kill switch feature

I thought that VPN4ALL was the VPN to be. After subscribing to their services I had issues with this feature until I came to realize that it wasn’t available. The kill switch is non-existent. Very disappointing.

VPN4all has a great feature called an anti-malware/virus software on the server, that prevents it from ever reaching your computer. This is something that i have not seen in any other of the numerous VPNs that i have used over time.I have used vpn4all for the last 2 months and the experience is great.

VPN4ALL is simple to use and is great for people like me that have very limited tech knowledge. The customer support has equally been great always promptly answering my questions and also appreciating the fact that i am not good with electronic gadgets.

No logs policy is real

My usage logs are also not collected or stored anywhere. This meant that they don’t not monitor or store Internet activities, emails, etc. either. It is definitely a great deal.

The Geographical location

It goes without any doubt that the location of VPN4All is not that safe. VPN4All has a HQ in Netherlands. This is also the HQ of the ICC,meaning that the internet laws here are a priority, I doubt if the company really prioritizes my privacy or the country’s proud laws.

I work in an environment where privacy is a very key component of what we do. We have good internet speeds so our reason for getting this service was primarily to take of the privacy angle. Its been 2 years and we have not had any issues since we got VPN4ALL.

I have used this service for the last 2 years. I work in an environment where online security is a crucial part of the work we do. We were looking for a service provider that would assure us of the safety of our communication and over the course of time we have used Vpn4all everything has worked out well. Will most definitely keep working with them.

No storing or caching of user’s original IP address

What amazed the most was the fact that the company never catches user’s original IP address. They assured me that not even the servers connected to the user at any given time can be disclosed. This is total anonymity.

Slow speeds at times

Despite the fact that VPN Internet connection is definitely going to be slower than your home network. The speed was too slow especially when when I used it while on a trip to Uganda. Definitely not a good choice here.
